قصة مسير عمرو بن العاص إلى مصر لفتحها ورسالة عمر بن الخطاب إليه بهذا الشأن، من الأمور المهمة في التاريخ الإسلامي بعامة، وتاريخ الفتح الإسلامي لمصر بخاصة، وقد وردت في كثير من كتب التاريخ والجغرافيا، وقد قمت بإعداد هذا البحث عنها؛ لبيان حقيقتها، والوقوف على مدى صحتها، وجعلت عنوانه "مسير عمرو بن العاص إلى مصر لفتحها ورسالة عمر بن الخطاب إليه بهذا الشأن دراسة نقدية". وقد تحدثت فيه عن مسير عمرو بن العاص رضى الله عنه  إلى مصر لفتحها، وهل كان مسيره إليها بإذن من عمر بن الخطاب رضى الله عنه وبأمر مباشر منه، أم أنه سار إليها لفتحها من تلقاء نفسه، ودون أن يأذن له عمر بن الخطاب رضى الله عنه ، بل ودون علم الخليفة، كما تحدثت عن الرسالة التي قيل إن الخليفة عمر رضى الله عنه  أرسلها إلى عمرو بن العاص رضى الله عنه ، فوصلته قبل دخوله في حدود مصر؛ فذكرتها كما وردت في كتب التراث، ثم قمت بنقد الروايات التي وردت بها سندً ومتنًا، وخَلُصْتُ إلى أن كل الروايات التي وردت عن  مسير عمرو بن العاص إلى مصر لفتحها ورسالة عمر بن الخطاب رضى الله عنه   إليه بشأن فتح مصر، روايات ضعيفةٌ سندًا ومتنًا، ولا أساس لها من الصحة؛ وذلك للأسباب التي ذكرتها في ثنايا البحث، وبالتالي يثبت عدم صحة نسبة أيضًا هذه الرسالة إلى عمر بن الخطاب رضى الله عنه  .
