ارتبط المصري القديم ارتباطًا وثيقًا بموطنه الأصلي مما يؤكد على الترابط الأسري والمجتمعي في مصر القديمة، فارتباط المصري بقريته وإقليمه وبلده يدل على أن مصر بلد ذات طابع حضاري أصيل، وورد هذا الارتباط في كافة مظاهر الحياة اليومية في مصر القديمة، وقد عبر عن ذلك الأدب المصري القديم، ولعل ما جاء في قصة نجاة الملاح عن قول الثعبان للمصري بأنك سوف ترجع إلى بلدك، وترى وطنك، , وأيضا ما جاء في قصة سنوهي حيث أبدى رغبته العارمة في العودة إلى مصر مرة أخرى، وأفاضت السير الذاتية بافتخار بعض المصريين بذكر الموطن الأصلي لهم، فذكر البعض أنه ينتمي إلى مدينة عريقة مثل طيبة، وآخر أشار إلى أنه من بوباسطة، حتى الأجانب المقيمين في مصر أشار بعضهم إلى أنه ينتمي إلى بلد غير مصر مثل كوش.
يعد مما سلف نوعًا من اعتزاز المرء بموطنه الأصلي فمهما بعد الشخص عن مدينته التي ولد فيها فإنه يشعر بالحنين بالعودة إليه مرة أخرى، أو يعبر عن ذلك بذكر موطنه مقترنًا باسمه الشخصي، وذلك عند تناول سيرته الذاتية، أو يُشير الشخص إلى مدينته على الرغم من انتقاله إلى مدينة أخرى، ولم يخجل بعض الأجانب المقيمين في مصر من ذكر موطن آبائهم الأجنبي
